Scene (As it's known today) is generally a fashion style which often incorporates elements of various different genres, this style has only been around for a few years and originally formed when the third wave of emo and the second wave of screamo music became more popular. From the beginning of this decade there was a new style of music pushing through and gaining popularity, especially by the year 2003 when it had become somewhat of an overnight craze especially online, this style grew even more as myspace gained popularity as screamo bands which used to confined mainly to gigs were now able to upload and spread their music which would often never have been heard.

Screamo is no new genre and originally started almost 20 years ago but was often a controversial term and rejected by bands which were labled as "screamo". Many of the bands which were called screamo bands during the early 90s would often be referred to as grindcore bands in these times.

The third wave of emo and second wave of screamo had a very different look to the earlier waves of emo where you would commonly find the style consisting of a typical "nerd" look, with very plain jeans as well as an old t-shirt. But during the time from 2000-2005 emo and screamo began to get associated with a style that incorporated fashion from the goth culture, hardcore culture as well as the original emo style. While many of these fashion styles were dragged from other genres there were some interesting new features in the style which became known as "scene" including an new hair style which was often straightened and dyed, with the fringe (bangs) hanging over one eye.

While originally the scene fashion consisted of alternative music styles during the mid-2000s various other genres became integrated within the scene style including the now common usage of hip-hop elements such as hoodies with print all over, caps; And for girls more often the use of fashion styles from the 1980s pop and disco scene such as bright coloured eye liner and bright coloured or leopard print tights.

Followers of the scene style are often referred to as 'Scene kids' or 'Scenesters'. Scene has often been a very controversial topic and to outsiders of the scene it is often looked down upon, whether it be cause of the hate which has grown towards the emo lifestyle or because many 'scene kids' refer to themselves as being hardcore fans, when what most listen to is actually screamo or post-hardcore. And the hardcore scene is often (Though not always) based on a positive message and movement, which is stereotypically the opposite of what emo is. Due to this many people who actually follow a typical scene fashion style refuse to be called scene kids or scenesters and do their best to denounce themselves from these names although they fit the definition.

The confusing aspect of scene is that the fashion is very similar to that of the third wave of emo's fashion style. The difference between the two usually being that the hair of a scene kid tends to be more eccentric and the amount of clothing accessories far out-number that of the emo fashion, regardless of these differences many still do and will continue to confuse scene and emo. The conclusion being that 'scene' is a constantly changing fashion style which originally started in the alternative music scene but has spread to all areas of the modern youth.
