Introduction

Hair! The part of the scene fashion that receives the most attention, scene hair / emo hair is an essential part of the scene kid look and should definitely be paid attention to. Even those who are not scenesters themselves generally love the scene hair / emo hair look, especially on females.

Here are a few emo hair and scene hair styles for females so you can know how to get scene hair. Remember that styling hair is often somewhat of an art and will need to be practised numerous times before you get it right, especially since each person's hair is different and reacts a different way to various methods. While it is possible to cut emo hair and scene hair yourself it's recommended that you go to a hairstylist with your idea or take a picture of the desired cut to the hairdresser. If you do plan on doing it yourself of having a friend do your hair for you then here are the steps you can take to achieve various different scene hairstyles.

Emo hair and scene hair is a great way to compliment your scene clothing, if you have brightly dyed scene hair you will notice how well it will contrast with some of your clothes. Remember that scene hair often needs maintenance and you may be required to stock up on some scene hair products.

Registered members can now discuss your hair style, ask for advice and receive advice using the scenestyles' forum!

HOW TO GET IT

This is a hair style which tends to be common among scene girls and consists of extensions which one can buy in various colours, making the process of dying the hair unnecessary. To attach the extensions I would recommend going to a salon or any other hair business where they provide such services. If you feel compelled to attach them yourself I'd have a look at the following SITE. Or view one of the videos below :

Large Back and Top - Spiked Look

This unique scene hairstyle is achieved by cutting the back of the hair quite a bit shorter than the front, and layering the sides a bit so that you are able to put some of the hair up while still giving a longish appearance. To stick the back of the hair up you can use hair wax or hair spray. When applying hairspray it is important to remember that it is most effective to use while blow drying the hair as the hair spray hardens quicker and allows you to achieve your desired shape easier. There are some video tutorials of how to do this in the scene video tutorial area.

Short Female Scene Hair

Dark coloured short to medium scene hair

This short scene hair style is achieved by the following steps :

Step 1 : Layer the backs and side of the hair so that it is possible to spike it at the top.Remember not to layer the fringe(bangs).

Step 2 : Brush the hair and move the fringe(bangs) to the side of your face, a clip can be used to keep it in place.

Step 3 : Use either a wax,gel or small amount of hair spray to make the back/top of the hair stand up a bit. This can also be achieved with a blow drier on the area you want raised.

Curly Scene Hair

This hair style is rarey scene and provides a fresh look for scene females. While this girl's hair may not naturally be curly and it's only the extensions which are, the colouring and styling gives you an idea how if you have curly hair you can still make it look great and scene without straightening all of it. Many girls have the idea that if they have curly hair they need to spend hours straightening it to look scene, this hairstyle proves that it's not always loads of hair straightening that makes the hair look great.

Shorter Fringe/Bangs With Longer Sides

Here you have another common scene hair for females. This hair style consists of a straight short fringe(bangs), longs sides and a long back. Here is how to achieve it :

Step 1 : Cut your hair so that the fringe(bangs) is fairly short while leaving both the sides and the back of the hair long, the back may need a bit of layering if you want to use hair spray to make the ends stand out a bit at the top like shown above.

Step 2 : Backcomb areas of the back and the area between the sides and the back, depending where you want the 'poofyness' to appear.

Step 3 : After backcombing use hair spray on the area you back combed, this is even more effective if you blow dry the area while applying the hair spray.

Step 4 : Just style the fringe(bangs) with your hands, or straighten it with a hair straightener if needed.

Interesting Scene Hair For Both Male Or Female

Scene hair female shorter

This very interesting hair style is actually for both males and females. It is less common than many of the other scene hairstyles, though has become somewhat more popular of late, here is how to achieve it :

Step 1 : Make sure your hair is long enough to style.

Step 2 : Perform a straight cut across your fringe, but no further than the end of your eyebrows.

Step 3 : Cut in a curved but straight manner down the sides of your face, as can be seen in the picture above.

Step 4 : Perform a straight cut on the hair all around the back on either sides, so that the style blends in from the front to the back.

Step 5 : Layer the top-back of the hair as to create the effect of two layers. Once you have performed this technique, you can dye the two layered sections different colours as seen above to create more of a contrast between the sections.

STRAIGHTENING SCENE HAIR

Straightening ones hair is an essential part of the scene look to most, especially those with hair that tends to be less naturally straight than others.Straightening ones hair is a rather straight forward activity.

There are various kinds of straighteners on the market, mainly consisting of 2 types namely dry straighteners and wet and dry straighteners. While it is possible to use a dry straightener on damp hair it's not recommended.

Step 1 : Make sure your hair is preferably clean and free of any oils, grease or gels. Also make sure that your hair is dry whether it be from blow drying or towel drying.

Step 2 : Select your hair straighteners temperature settings which one can change and each settings has a different effectiveness for each persons hair so maybe take some time to find the best settings for your hair, it's recommended that you try a medium temperature and do not use the straightener on it's maximum temperature. The curlier the hair does not mean the hotter the straightener must be.

Step 3 : Check if your straightener has warmed up to the appropriate temperature. Most hair straighteners have a light which tells you when it has reached the desired temperature.

Step 4 : Begin straightening the hair from the root, pulling down hard right to the tip of the hair. When straightening, clamp individual areas of hair and continue until you are happy with the result, then repeat this through all the hair you want straightened.

Step 5 : If needed or desired, apply appropriate hair product such as wax or gel.

COLOURING SCNE HAIR

Dying the hair is a common activity for both scene girls and scene guys. The most common colour in the scene and emo fashion is jet black, while it remains more common for the emo style rather than the scene style where you would typically find brighter colours such as red, blue and purple dye.

While some scenesters decide to do their entire hair in colour the more common practice is to dye majority of the hair black and then to bleach certain selected areas, most commonly the fringe(Bangs) and possibly then apply a colour to the bleached area.

When bleaching the hair the directions differ from brand to brand and one should read the instructions that come with for the best results. As for colouring, it is acceptable to leave the colour on for 20-30% longer than instructed. For your colour to last longer there are various products which result in a longer lasting, more vibrant shine.

When dying the hair, if possible ask a friend to help you out. That way you will end up with what will likely be a better result. If you are worried about the dye sticking to your skin around your hair line, before you start you can use Vaseline on the skin around the area, this tends to stop the dye staining your skin.

Note : There are no rules when it comes to gender and hair dying and all styles can be done on both males and females.
