The alternative music scene has often come under fire by church organizations in the past due to the high number of conservative Christians.And at times emo has been described as Satanic and work of the devil, this due to the ignorance of many religious people and their view that anything which is dark is a metaphor for the darkness of Satan.Some churches have even publicly denounced emo and told parents to make sure their children do not listen to screamo,hardcore and emo music.

But on the other hand there is still a large amount of liberal christians who don't have a problem with the genre at all.And emo and post-hardcore have now days become quite big in the christian community, a famous christian screamo band (although they have probably taken a more metal-core stance these days) is underoath, not to mention plenty of others.

Many parents also feel that if there is screaming in music that it automatically makes it ungodly, they don't care to listen to the lyrics.These ignorant minds often lead to parents banning children listening to music that they would actually love them listening to lyrics-wise..
